A new study has shown that men in the UK could benefit from getting a Viagra prescription, because Viagra is a drug they want to avoid for the rest of their lives.
It is not known how many of these people there are and how they would benefit. But one in three are men, and the benefits are wide-ranging.

“It’s a bad idea for people with heart disease to take it and take it every day,” he said. He has studied the drug and is a member of the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
He says he has not heard of any research that shows a person with heart problems could get Viagra.
The study also found that men who take Viagra for three months could benefit from a new, lower-dose version of the drug, called Cialis.
The pills are the same pills that treat erectile dysfunction — but are more expensive — and are not available without a prescription.
The drug is also used for prostate enlargement, a condition in which the prostate enlarges, but does not cause erections.
The researchers say the results are likely to help women who take Viagra for a period.
The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

And the researchers found that men taking Viagra for a six-month period had an increased chance of a pregnancy.
Viagra is a cheaper alternative to Cialis, but there are still no scientific studies that support its use.
The drug was originally developed as an anti-impotence drug and has been prescribed to millions of men since it was discovered.
It was originally developed by researchers at the University of Manchester. But a UK study found that Viagra users had a more than sixfold increased chance of having an erection.
The study is the latest in a long line of studies on Viagra’s use, including one that looked at a number of other drugs — including Cialis, an anti-depressant and the antidepressant nandrolone.

“We need to know more about why it is more effective,” said Dr. David Healy.
He is also concerned that it would be too early to know the results, and that it could raise the risk of serious side effects, particularly for men taking other drugs.
“This study does not answer all the questions about how we should be using the drug,” he said.
The study was funded by Pfizer, and its director, Peter Soon, is a Pfizer-funded research associate.
The drug is being sold in three different strengths — 25mg, 50mg and 100mg — and has been available for about 40 years.
The pills are made of a gel called Cialis, which means it dissolves in the mouth and is absorbed by the body. It is used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, and it is also prescribed to women with breast cancer.
